Daniel Maldini got his name back on the scoresheet as Monza did AC Milan a favour by beating Fiorentina on Monday night, and his future is intriguing.
As Calciomercato.com recall, it has been a difficult period for Maldini, who has struggled in terms of performance levels which caused him to lose his starting spot. However, he put in a very high-level display against Fiorentina and scored the winning goal in the end.
Ironically, it might have been an audition of sorts because La Viola are the club that ‘are trying in every way to buy him’ in the January transfer window. The ex-Monza boss Raffaele Palladino likes Daniel a lot and wants to reunite with him.
Fiorentina must be careful of Atalanta, who have decided to sign a trequartista in January and have Paolo’s son on the list, in addition to Rayan Cherki from Lyon and Julio Enciso from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Nonetheless, Adriano Galliani is resisting and will not change his mind: Maldini will not be sold in January because he is too important to the new coach Salvatore Bocchetti and the bid to achieve survival.
Letting the former Milan man go would mean weakening the squad in a big way. Those who want Daniel will have to wait until June when the €12m release clause will be active (€15m for clubs abroad), and as a reminder 50% of the proceeds will go to Milan.
