Tijjani Reijnders provided yet another high-level performance last night against Real Madrid, with many naming him their man of the match.
Calciomercato.com speak of a ‘magical night’ against Real Madrid for Reijnders, with a performance that ‘bewitched and silenced’ the entire Santiago Bernabeu. Beyond scoring the goal that made it 3-1, he caught the eye with his dribbling and distribution, and not for the first time.
In the defensive phase he had two duels won, one tackle and one block, but in possession is where he is more impressive. The Dutchman completed 98% of his passes (52 out of 53) of which seven were long, 33 medium and only 13 short.
Looking more at where Reijnders sent his passes it becomes clear that he was a true regista, dishing out practically the same number of balls to almost all his team-mates (five on average) aside from Rafael Leao, who he passed to 11 times.
This orchestrated show was not an isolated case and the feeling is that there are more and more clubs interested in Reijnders. In Spain there are those who think he could replace Toni Kroos at Real Madrid, and the performance at the Bernabeu will fuel them. As for Milan, a renewal is in the pipeline.
