Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have won praise as the two outstanding performers for Inter Milan against Feyenoord.

Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, name the pair as the two shining examples as the Nerazzurri reached the Champions League quarterfinals.

Inter Milan have booked their place in the next round of the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri did so with a 2-1 win in the second leg of their round of sixteen tie against Feyenoord.

On paper, it was hardly the most difficult match for Inter. They already had a 2-0 advantage against Feyenoord from the first leg. And the Dutch side were undeniably injury-hit and inexperience.

But Inter still needed their biggest names to step up to get the job done. And that is exactly what happened with a couple of Nerazzurri players.

Striker Marcus Thuram was the man of the match in the view of the Gazzetta

Inter needed one of their star men to really take the game to Feyenoord, who were aggressive and tried to unsettle Inter early on.

And that is exactly what Thuram did. The Frenchman showed his lethal combination of pace and technical quality to score within the first ten minutes.

And that goal took a lot of the air out of the early Feyenoord pressure.

Then, throughout the match, Thuram gave Feyenoord defenders Thomas Beelen and David Hancko a torrid time in their own area.

Meanwhile, the Gazzetta also highlight the frenetic display by former Arsenal and Roma midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Inter needed a player who would really match Feyenoord’s energy. And that is exactly what Mkhitaryan did.

The Armenian rolled back the years in the midfield battle. He recognized where the spaces were, an led Inter’s most dangerous counterattacks regularly with his accurate forward passes.
