A high manager turnover at Old Trafford in recent years has not helped and one of those who was sacked believes that the club made one fatal mistake last summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær spent nine years with the Red Devils as a player before returning in 2018 to lead them as manager across the next three years.

Now in charge at Beşiktaş, the Norwegian pinpointed the decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli as a key misstep by the 20-time English champions.

"Scott and Fred together, they were lads you would put your hat on every day to give 100%," Solskjær told BBC Sport.

"How you can sell Scott is beyond me."

McTominay's move to Serie A has been one of the season's unlikely success stories as he now enjoys a starring role with Antonio Conte's current champions-elect.
