CaughtOffside just keep hammering away at the rumours liking Kaoru Mitoma with a move to a top Premier League club.

The winger came very close to a move to Saudi Arabia in January but ended up staying put to help fire Brighton to a really impressive second half of the campaign. The Seagulls are trying to tie the 27 year old down to a new contract; but Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern, Man U and others are all mentioned as interested.

As links go, it’s not too convincing from a Chelsea point of view. Buying 27 year olds from Brighton at the peak of their value is precisely what we’re supposed to be moving away from, especially when prices like €90m are being mentioned.

Chelsea likely to invest in wide positions – but Mitoma looks too old and expensive

Chelsea target Kaoru Mitoma playing for Brighton with interest from Blues hovering over him.

Chelsea’s wing picture overall is quite uncertain. Look at the current options – who really convinces? Noni Madueke is hot and cold, Jadon Sancho neat and tidy but not a top level player, Pedro Neto has looked better up front than out wide, Mykhailo Mudryk is banned, Christopher Nkunku ineffective and uninterested. We can understand why there are links to other options.

Meanwhile teenage superstar Estevao Willian will also arrive in the summer to complicate things further. He looks like an incredible player already, but it’s still pretty impossible to know how much he will be able to contribute right from the moment he arrives.

It may be that the precocious talent is ready to play from the day he lands, it may be that he needs a whole year to adapt to life in the Premier League. Until we find out, it’s hard to see us putting too much money into buying new wingers.
