“Sources” on transfer rumour which would change Chelsea’s whole project

Links appeared today which claimed that Chelsea’s £106m midfielder Enzo Fernandez is a major target for Real Madrid.
Our sources revealed that Los Blancos still want to sign the Argentine playmaker, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 as a centrepiece of the new project.
But with every brief comes an equal or opposite brief, and in this case it’s Bobby Vincent of Football.London who claims that he’s been told by “sources” that Chelsea “expect Enzo Fernandez to be at the club for a very long time.
Given the staggering length of his contract – which runs until 2032, that seems pretty likely. Now 24, he should be reaching his peak, and as the squad around him is tweaked and improved we should be expecting to see more and more top quality showings from him knitting things together.

You wouldn’t expect to hear anything else in the circumstances, especially from a “source close to Stamford Bridge”. Even if they did want to sell Enzo, they’re not going to make that public. They put a huge amount of money into securing him, have given him a monster contract, and now want the payoff.
Perhaps he’s not been everything they hoped just yet, but his form has been good recently and there no doubting he’s a good player, perhaps one who is in a team which doesn’t yet let him shine to his greatest extent. The Argentina international is very much the style and type of player one can see being a huge hit in Madrid, but Chelsea don’t want to sell and they won’t make the sort of offer they would need to for us to reconsider.
One day circumstances might change – but for now everything with Project Enzo is going pretty much to plan, and there’s no way that the club are going to cash in their chips at this stage.
