Jacob Ramsey facing undeserved backlash following Aston Villa win | OneFootball

Jacob Ramsey scored against Preston North End. Aston Villa, through his and his teammates efforts, will now face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals. Immediately following the match, however, a lot was made of his comments after speaking with the media.

In that moment, it can be easy to catch a player off-guard. Overanalyzing something in that moment can be warranted at times, but in this case, Ramsey was far from being disrespectful in his reaction toward Palace.

At the time, he didn't know who Villa would be facing at Wembley. Following a dominant win against PNE and knowing that only a couple more steps would mean hoisting a trophy. Then finding out his opponent was just a case of the midfielder being surprised that the reporter told him during the interview and hearing the news for the first time.

In this case, his laugh was simply an acknowledgment. There were likely a number of thoughts that entered his mind, including what to tell his friends at Palace and possibly something that could even playfully get under their skin.

There shouldn't have been anything else thought of for that interaction. Some have chosen to go on a campaign of sticking up for a 'disrespected' side. These energies and efforts are misplaced. From then on, those looking to criticize Ramsey, probably wishing for him to apologize, failed to listen to the rest of the clip when he credited how they played against Fulham.

This fully illustrates how taking a moment to more fully assess a player interaction can change the outlook in any given situation. It's too easy to clip a single moment; sometimes a lot can be drawn from a five-second span. To hear the draw and interpret the instant glee as anything other than someone excited for the Aston Villa FA Cup matchup is disingenuous.
