AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been heavily praised this season, and against Belgium, the praise continued after a fantastic performance.

Although it has been a difficult season so far for Milan, Maignan’s performances have often kept the Rossoneri out of heavier trouble, and he deserves heaps of credit for this. However, it is not just in Italy where he is getting praise.

After his performance against Belgium, the French press lauded him as ‘a real boss‘, and it is clear to see why. Whilst he conceded once, he made six saves, and as a result, Les Bleus were successful against their neighbours.

Speaking to TF1 after the game, Maignan spoke about the work he had been doing recently, whilst also admitting that he wanted to be a leader of the French National Team, and his words have been relayed by Milan Press.

“It’s a great night, a difficult match because we knew Belgium would create problems for us and they wanted revenge. It’s a great victory for our fans who made the trip and it’s also a great victory for France.

“My six saves? It’s positive for me and reflects the work I’m doing at the moment. It’s good for me and for the team, but the most important thing is to have won. I’m one of the oldest players in the team. It’s not a role I’ve given myself, it comes naturally to me because it’s my temperament to want to lead.”

With Fonseca considering him as one of the Rossoneri’s leaders, such displays for his nation will only strengthen his reasoning to be entrusted as a leader.
