Manchester United vs Aston Villa: Final Day Dread for Amorim’s Side After Dismal Season

Manchester United Look to Salvage Pride on Final Day Amid Historic Low Point

It’s been a season to forget—if only Manchester United could. As they host Aston Villa on the final day of the 2024–25 Premier League campaign, there’s little at stake beyond dignity—and even that is in short supply.

Having lost the Europa League final to Tottenham in midweek, Ruben Amorim’s men are now staring down a potential bottom-three finish. Should United slip to defeat against high-flying Villa while Spurs handle Brighton, the Red Devils could finish as low as 17th, a placement that would be the worst in the club’s Premier League history.

Avoiding that ignominy is about all the motivation left at Old Trafford, with Champions League dreams dashed and European football off the table for next season.

Injury Relief and Rotation on the Cards

In what could be considered a rare bright spot, Amorim has welcomed a triple injury boost:

  • Joshua Zirkzee,
  • Diogo Dalot,
  • Leny Yoro

—all featured against Spurs in Bilbao and are likely to be fit enough to face Villa.

With fatigue and morale both waning, the Portuguese boss may rotate heavily. Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho—two of the club’s brighter young talents—are pushing for starts, though speculation swirls that both Garnacho and Victor Lindelof could depart this summer.

Teen Talent Set for Debut?

Up front, Amorim faces a tactical dilemma. Rasmus Højlund has looked off-colour, and Zirkzee may not yet be fit to start. That could pave the way for 17-year-old Chido Obi to lead the line—a bold but perhaps necessary roll of the dice.

Elsewhere, Amad Diallo, Bruno Fernandes, and Manuel Ugarte may form the midfield engine, with teenage left-back Harry Amass potentially making his full debut.

Verdict: A Bitter End, or One Last Glimmer?

This final fixture won’t rewrite the story of United’s catastrophic campaign, but it may offer a glimpse into the future. With Amorim keen to reshape the squad this summer, Sunday’s match could serve as an audition for youth—and perhaps, a chance to avoid the most embarrassing of full stops to an already painful season.
