Matches like this prove which Newcastle United fans have a clue and who are clueless

Newcastle United fans make me laugh.

Especially some of the clowns around me today.

As the clock ticked down on Newcastle 0 Brighton 1, I knew what was coming.

I heard what some of those around me were saying and I knew that post-match, it would for sure see the walking dead letting everyone know online, just how little they know about football.

Nobody likes to lose, especially at home (which we hadn’t done for over nine months!!!), but this kind of match and result does at least serve some purpose.

It exposes those amongst us who really shouldn’t be allowed an opinion. Well, they certainly shouldn’t be allowed to shout it at us, figuratively, online… and especially not in the pub!

I have even seen some jokers saying Eddie Howe should be sacked after this Newcastle 0 Brighton 1 defeat.

Reality is that he set the team up perfectly.

Newcastle United were excellent the first half and totally dominated. We could and should have had the game won using that platform.

The midfield trio of Bruno, Joelinton and Tonali controlled things from the first minute.

Brighton couldn’t get out of their own half, they couldn’t get the ball.

It was like the boxer on the ropes getting pummelled, you are just waiting for the inevitable knockout blow.

It came for Newcastle United on 33 minutes after they had beaten Brighton into submission.

United produced the best move of the match.

Bruno put Isak in and if that 33rd minute chance goes in, we would have won by at least three. Instead their keeper makes a great save. The fact he ended up man of the match tells you everything, or at least it should!

Sadly, the walking dead amongst us, those clueless Newcastle United fans, can’t comprehend this.

Instead, they just lash out and look for somebody to blame if Newcastle don’t win a match.

It is like dealing with toddlers, ten year olds at best, who seemingly can’t understand that sometimes you can do all the right things in football, BUT you can still end up losing.

Two minutes atter Isak should have scored the opener, Brighton do a smash and grab the first time they get near our box and score a perfect away goal.

Anthony Gordon could have had a hat-trick, somehow putting a header over the bar from six yards out from a wonderful Isak cross.

His next best chance was through with just the keeper to beat but shot straight at him.

The second half slipped away from United and left ruing the missed chances, the referee was woeful as well and didn’t help matters, whilst the long delay for the Welbeck injury (hopefully he is ok) totally stopped our momentum.

Just look at the stats.

Newcastle United with 45 touches of the ball in their penalty area.

Brighton with only 12 in the Newcastle United box.

Plus, I think that the only one of the 12 for Brighton, touches in our box in the first half was their goal!’

By all means bemoan the NUFC finishing today BUT don’t fall into the Walking Dead trap of thinking that just because Newcastle United lose, it doesn’t mean we were terrible. Far from it in fact, I think arguably easily the best half Newcastle United have played this season, we totally controlled it, apart from the 15 seconds when they created and scored their goal.

As for blaming Eddie Howe and thinking he should be sacked, shame on you.

It wasn’t him who failed to finish when Isak was one on one.

Nor was he the one who missed Gordon’s header or failed with his one on one.

A day when we didn’t take our chances, didn’t take advantage our domination, a day when nothing dropped our way when the ball fell in the box.

Sometimes these matches can happen, get over it. Stop crying.
