Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti recently shared a humorous story about his experiences at the club during Fabio Capello’s management.

He recounted how each day at training started with a routine that revolved around weight checks. Capello, known for his strict approach, had a daily ritual where players had to weigh themselves.

This focus on maintaining optimal weight became a hallmark of Capello’s coaching style, and Guti vividly remembered the atmosphere during these weigh-ins.

“Every day we would arrive and Fabio Capello would be there with the sheet and you had to weigh yourself,” said Guti on El Chiringuito TV.

The sight of Ronaldo Nazario

Guti explained that if a player weighed half a kilogram more than the acceptable limit, it sparked discussions among the team.

He noted that there were a few players who occasionally found themselves on the wrong side of the scale, but one player, in particular, stood out.

“If you were half a kilo overweight? I personally asked those who were overweight, and there were some who were overweight,” he added.

With a hint of playful mystery, he mentioned that there was one player who was consistently overweight, leaving everyone guessing about who it could be.

“There was only one who was overweight and I’m not going to say who.”

Ultimately, Guti revealed that it was none other than Ronaldo Nazario, stating that he didn’t seem to care much about the coach’s opinions on his weight.

“Ronaldo Nazario said he didn’t weigh himself. And that’s it… and he didn’t weigh himself. Capello could say whatever he wanted, but he didn’t weigh himself. And that’s okay,” he noted.

The Mbappe case

As Guti continued his reflection, he shared insights about international breaks. He emphasized that these breaks offered players a welcome opportunity to relax and step away from the pressures of football.

He suggested that regardless of how players chose to spend their time, they would face criticism no matter what. He highlighted the challenges of maintaining a personal life as a footballer, particularly for stars like Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Messi.

“The private life of a footballer doesn’t exist. The private life of Mbappe, Cristiano, Messi… doesn’t exist.

“They don’t go down to collect letters from the mailbox and nobody stops them to take a photo. Everyone stops them. They don’t have a personal life,” he concluded.
