The social media team at La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Thursday sent a message of congratulations the way of arch rivals Barcelona.

This comes fresh off the latter wrestling back the title of Spanish football supremacy from Los Blancos.

Barcelona marked their return to action a short time ago, making the short trip across Catalunya for a La Liga meeting with neighbours Espanyol.

Hansi Flick’s troops headed into the matchup in the knowledge that a three-point haul would put them out of sight atop the table, in the process securing their status as champions.

And when all was said and done, march on to victory is precisely what the Blaugrana managed.

Owing to strikes on the part of Lamine Yamal and Fermín López, Barca put Espanyol to the sword by two goals to nil.

As much means that the aforementioned Real Madrid have officially surrendered their La Liga crown to their most bitter rivals.

As aluded to above, though, Los Blancos, momentarily at least, have late on Thursday evening put rivalries to one side.
