The international break is an excellent change of pace for Leicester players and supporters. For Mads Hermansen, it means joining a Danish team with another LCFC legend. Kasper Schmeichel is well known for his efforts in between the posts at King Power. After eight years in the top flight for the Foxes, the keeper recorded 276 Premier League starts with the club.
Now, as a member of Celtic, Hermansen is still well in tune with what City is up to. He has a strong connection with the East Midlands side. This is particularly true with current number one Mads Hermansen being a fellow countryman and earning a call-up for Denmark.
While preparing for their Nations League matches against Portugal, the goalie talked through some of the politics of waiting for your spot to open up, as well as his assessment of Hermansen.
Speaking with the Bold's Mads Glenn Wehlast, the current Danish first option spoke about his eventual successor:
"Both Mads Hermansen and Filip Jørgensen have impressed and proven that they belong on the top shelf. It bodes well for the future of Danish football. And I look forward to seeing more of them in the future."
Denmark has quality options at the GK position, and it can be tough for anyone to find themselves in a starting role for their country team. Particularly as a keeper, it can often take years before someone else steps in after a long run of the same person stopping shots.
Schmeichel called back to his waiting and took advantage of the chance when the opportunity was given to him. His comments, however, solidify the confidence and quality that he sees with both Hermansen and Jørgensen, as the 38-year-old knows that he will soon need to metaphorically hand over the reins.
For Hermansen in particular, the "top flight' aspect of the comments here could end up being somewhat prophetic. Most agree that his departure from LCFC is imminent. Likely in the Premier League, but if not, a team for a first-division side in a different league will want to add the current Ruud van Nistelrooy option to their squad. Leicester has had a good run of high-impact Danish keepers in their side. Unfortunately, for the club, that will soon be coming to an end.
