Khadija Shaw bagged a brace as Manchester City had to battle back to beat Liverpool and go top of the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Manchester City had to come from behind to take all three points with a stoppage-time winner against Liverpool at Anfield. Olivia Smith beat Ayaka Yamashita from 25 yards out to give the Reds the advantage close to the break. Khadija Shaw equalised before the hour mark, with a header into the far corner from a Lauren Hemp cross. Shaw hit the post after beating Rachel Laws to the ball, defenders preventing Hemp turning in the rebound. In the second of seven added minutes, Laia Aleixandri found Shaw who held off the challenge of Niamh Fahey to blast the ball into the roof of the net.

Despite a multitude of Tottenham set-pieces, Manchester United not only kept another clean sheet but claimed a third win from three.  Martha Thomas was denied from close-range by United keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, before Becky Spencer tipped over a Grace Clinton strike at the other end. The game swung in the hosts favour very late in the first, as Elisabeth Terland netted twice with a volley and header from Celin Bizet deliveries. Spencer tipped a Terland effort onto the post but Maya le Tissier scored the third from a penalty.

Brighton made it three wins in four games to date, with a single goal away to Crystal Palace. Fran Kirby found Bruna Vilamala in the six-yard box to put Brighton one up ten minutes from the interval.  Shae Yanez thought she had been fouled after colliding with Brighton striker Nikita Parris

Aston Villa had to settle for a goalless draw with Leicester City, as each side picked up just a second point of the campaign. City keeper Janina Leitzig made to fine late saves from Anna Patten and Adriana Leon to keep the hosts out.

Everton and West Ham also moved onto two points each, following their 1-1 ti.  Anouk Denton had the Hammers ahead after a dozen minutes, Viviane Asseyi setting up the goal. The Toffees were back on level terms from a 72nd-minute own-goal, as Camila Sáez got the final touch.
