Manchester United suffered their 18th Premier League loss of the season at the hands of Chelsea yesterday. For Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim, it was his 14th in 26 league matches.

Even if Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, the numbers paint a bleak picture. This is not working.

Amorim has collected just 24 points in 26 Premier League games since taking charge, a miserable average of 0.92 points per match.

For context, that is worse than Paul Jewell’s infamous run with Derby County in 2007/08, when the Rams finished with 11 points and no wins under Jewell. He averaged 0.94.

Amorim is now below that!

United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea was another low in a season filled with them. The Reds sit in 16th place on the league log. They are yet to hit the infamous 40-point threshold after 37 matches.

Man United will go a full campaign without winning back-to-back league matches for the first time in Premier League history. That is not just inconsistent. It is historically bad.

Since the start of April, United have collected just two points from a possible 18, fewer than any other Premier League side, including clubs fighting relegation.

Man United have not won in eight consecutive Premier League games for the first time in history.

Even with a European trophy on the line, there is little to suggest Amorim has improved this side beyond the chaos he inherited.

The board are reportedly ready to stand by Amorim regardless of the result at San Mames on Wednesday. That would be a mistake.

Amorim’s brief spell has been historically poor by every metric. Isolated moments in the Europa League cannot define the standards at Man United. Sustained excellence across the season should.

United cannot afford to ignore what the numbers are screaming. It is time to part ways with the Portuguese tactician.
