Simone Inzaghi lost his temper after Luca Pairetto’s decision not to award a penalty to his side condemned Inter Milan to a home draw against Bologna.
During his post-match interview with DAZN via FCInterNews, the Scudetto-winning manager lashed out at the match official.
Inter entered tonight’s proceedings in high spirits despite losing a three-year stranglehold on the Supercoppa Italiana last week.
Sunday’s narrow 1-0 win at Venezia saw the Nerazzurri set a new club record while stretching their winning league run to six.
However, Bologna stopped them in their tracks this evening.
Santiago Castro and Emil Holm canceled out Lautaro Martinez and Denzel Dumfries’ strikes in a goal-glutted 2-2 draw.
In all fairness, Vincenzo Italiano’s side showed courage at the San Siro, giving Inter a headache throughout the match.
“Credit to Bologna; they’re a tough team to face,” Inzaghi admitted.
“We played a great game, coming off a grueling schedule. We fought hard, created plenty, and gave away very little.
“On the second goal, we should’ve positioned ourselves better, but we also had multiple chances for the 3-2.
“The first goal was unlucky, and the second came off a deflection from our defender.
“There’s regret we didn’t get the three points, but we respect the opponent. The team did what I wanted.”
Asked whether this point is useful to a team accustomed to winning, Inzaghi replied: “Yes, I agree.
“But naturally, there’s some bitterness because we had opportunities for the 3-2.
“We faced a physical, organized team that pressed high.
“It was a demanding match, and while we scored two quality goals, there were moments where we could have done better.”
Inzaghi wasn’t pleased with Inter’s defensive mistakes tonight.
“On the second goal, we were caught off guard on a throw-in, leading to an easy ball into the box and a deflection after Bastoni’s clearance.
“These were similar situations, and while Bologna did well, we could have defended better.
“We’ve had matches where our defensive phase was excellent, but today we could’ve improved. That said, respect for the opponent is key.
“We need to focus on ourselves. We’ve won six matches and drawn two, including the one against Napoli, putting us in a strong position.
“Now, we need to do more.
“Like everyone, we’re juggling rotation and the calendar, but the league is incredibly demanding, and every match is challenging.”
Finally, Inzaghi commented on tensions after the final whistle and Luca Pairetto’s refereeing.
“Nothing serious. The players were nervous, and I didn’t want things to escalate with protests.
“Referees can make mistakes, like tonight or even in the Supercoppa final, but there’s mutual respect.
“When Frattesi’s late chance didn’t go our way, I saw the nerves rising and tried to keep things calm.
“Mistakes happen to us all, including the referees.”
