Providing a route to the FC Pro Open World Championship Play-Ins, January’s FC Pro Open Cup is the final one of its iteration this season that Man City Esports will be looking to thrive in.
Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt, Matias Bonanno and Ander ‘Neat’ Tobal will all be competing in the Ladder stage before, hopefully, progressing to the Cup Playoffs.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of the competition.
The Ladder stage will be played across 5 January to 13 January with the Ladders open for four hours each day.
The Pro players will be fighting to earn points and avoid losing them. A minimum of 20 matches must be played during the Ladder. Each game is a single leg with extra time and penalties enabled in order to determine a winner if needed.
Competitors with the highest peak placement for their respective region will qualify for the knockout stage.
Tekkz, Matias and Neat need to place in the top 256 players in Europe West.
Played across 18 and 19 January, day one of the Cup Playoffs is a Swiss format with players seeded based on their Ladder placement.
Each round will be played over one leg. The pros will be competing to win three games as quickly as possible.
However, if you lost three games, you’re eliminated. Once all rounds are played, Pro players with two or fewer losses will still move on to day two.
The pressure intensifies on day two with a single-elimination tournament the format.
Seeded based on their finishing placements again, the further you go the more circuit points the Pros will accrue.
With this being the final FC Pro Open Cup, all the circuit points from all three cups will be tallied and the top competitors from each region will qualify for the Pro World Championship.
For City, that means six spots are up for grabs in Europe West.
