The Elgin Che Guevara CSC was founded in 2009 to keep sedition and rebelliousness burning bright in Moray. Their members come from a cross section of the local community, including scallywags, former and present prisoners, bar-room brawlers, lounge lizards, and above all, good Celtic men.

Over the years, they have donated hundreds of pounds to the Green Brigade, Fans Against Criminalisation, The James Connolly Society in Edinburgh, various Palestinian groups, and other good causes.

They could regale you with many of their daring operations. However, six Special Branch officers are based in the Grampian region, five of them in Elgin, so they are a wee bit paranoid about divulging their ‘activities.’ They can tell you about one, though.

Celtic played Fenerbahce in Istanbul a few years ago, and the lads were there. A few miles from the stadium, a brawl took place between the young team and what they perceived to be Turkish ultras. Commandante Scott ran full pelt at the Turks and tried to wrestle their main man to the ground. Alas, it wasn’t Fenerbahce fans, but a group of undercover police. Handcuffed, lifted off the ground, and thrown into the back of an unmarked van, their leader got the beating of his life.

A Turkish jail loomed, but after being skelped with batons on his back and legs, he was unceremoniously kicked out of the van. Commandante was extremely proud of his six teeth, but alas, he was now down to four. What a sight he was!

He still made it to the game, though. All talk of Turkey, kebabs, or Turkish belly dancers is now forbidden in their company. Their club is named after the revered Argentinian revolutionary. They are convinced that if he had visited Scotland, he would have been a Celtic fan as he is far too handsome to be associated with the other side.

Membership is open to all, apart from Tories, loyalists, fascists, labour unionists, brown brogues devotees, and Methodists. They are what they are: unrepentant, undefeated, and unbowed. They would want it no other way.

And remember, comrades, it’s a grand old team to lose your teeth for!
