With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to arrive and the deal to bring in Dean Huijsen almost sewn up, Real Madrid have now turned their attention towards strengthening the left-back position.

As reported earlier, former academy ace, Alvaro Carreras, currently plying his trade at SL Benfica, has emerged as the priority target for the position.

However, he has a €50 million release clause which the Merengues do not intend to meet and are planning to negotiate a lower price with Benfica.

In the meantime, though, an interesting opportunity has presented itself to Real Madrid to reinforce the left-back slot.

Theo Hernandez offers himself to Real Madrid

Indeed, according to MARCA, AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez has offered himself to Real Madrid heading into the summer transfer window.

A former Real Madrid player, the French international has established himself as a mainstay at San Siro since making the switch from the Santiago Bernabeu in 2019.

The 27-year-old has had some ups and downs this season at Milan but has still made 49 appearances in all competitions, registering five goals and six assists.

Hernandez’s contract with the Rossoneri expires in 2026, meaning he will be entering the final year of his deal this summer. While the Italian giants have been working on a renewal, an agreement has not yet been reached.

Now, it has emerged that the left-back has offered himself to Real Madrid as he seemingly seeks a return to the Spanish capital club where he spent two years after arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2017.

Not a priority for Real Madrid

While Hernandez seems to be harbouring hopes of a return, the report states that Real Madrid do not see their former star as a priority target for the left-back position.

The 27-year-old’s contract situation could make him an enticing target, but the Merengues do not consider him among their main objectives as things stand.

As such, the focus is completely on striking a deal with Benfica for Alvaro Carreras, whose arrival could spark the departure of one of Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia.
