GdS: Milan facing ‘all or nothing’ showdown in Croatia for qualification

AC Milan can almost feel their ticket into the final 16 of the Champions League, but if they are not careful, that ticket will be snatched from them.

On face value, the game against Dinamo Zagreb should – and we say should, it never is – be a walk in the park for a side who have not lost in Europe on the last five occasions. However, football is rarely that simple.

As Gazzetta dello Sport writes, the Rossoneri are so close to qualification via the top eight, but the game in Zagreb will not be simple, given what is at stake for the Croatian side. Sitting 26th in the standings, there is a possibility of Dinamo entering the play-off places, so for them, it will be an all-or-nothing showdown at home.

It may be an intimidating prospect for the Diavolo, however, Sergio Conceicao has experienced hostile stadiums, so he will know the tips of the trade to get the best from his side.

Failing to reach the final 16 at this point would be seen as ‘unforgivable’ considering the achievements of the past five games. Especially considering the money available to the Rossoneri for qualification via the top eight. The benefits available obviously go past finances, but this is a huge driving force and Milan cannot let this slip now.
