Midfielder Davide Frattesi says that he is not worried about his playing time at Inter Milan under Simone Inzaghi.

The former Sassuolo midfielder spoke about the contrast in his minutes with the Nerazzurri and Italy in a press conference with the national team, via FCInterNews. He said that he “understands” his coach.

It has been widely commented on that Frattesi is in a somewhat paradoxical situation.

On the one hand, the 25-year-old is a regular starter for Italy.

As a matter of fact, Frattesi had broken into the Azzurri team before he even joined Inter.

Frattesi first won the trust of Roberto Mancini as Italy coach. And since Luciano Spalletti’s arrival as Mancini’s replacement he has only become more important, virtually the first name on the teamsheet.

On the other hand, Frattesi has yet to really become part of Inter’s first-choice starting eleven.

The Italian international has had his chances to play. Both from the start and from the bench.

But last season, Frattesi’s first at Inter, saw him make just five starts. And never in the most important matches.

This season the 25-year-old has gotten a few more opportunities. An injury to Nicolo Barella has certainly opened the door for him in this regard.

But there remains a sense that Inter coach Inzaghi does not see Frattesi as part of his strongest team the way that Spalletti evidently does.

Of his playing time at Inter, Frattesi said with a laugh that “It’s already been more than last season.”

“Jokes aside, I understand my coach Inzaghi,” the 25-year-old continued.

“And that’s why I’ve never made a fuss about it.”

“There are four players for the two positions,” Frattesi noted. Inter also have Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryanm, and Piotr Zielinski who can play as box-to-box midfielders.

“All of us are top level footballers. So it’s not simple.”

“Last season I joined a team that had just played in the Champions League final,” Frattesi said.

“And then they went on and won the Scudetto. So it’s not simple.”
