Kevin De Bruyne says he is proud of all he has helped Manchester City achieve and hopes he has made the fans happy as he prepares for his Etihad farewell.

Tuesday night’s Premier League clash at home to Bournemouth will mark the Belgian icon’s final Etihad appearance for City with the midfielder departing the Club at the end of the season

It promises to be a bittersweet night packed full of emotion and gratitude for all that De Bruyne has brought to City over the past 10 years.

A haul of 19 major trophies achieved across 420 games and 108 goals starkly illustrate the scale of the achievement of one of the greatest midfielders in City’s history.

But KDB’S impact arguably went far deeper than those incredible statistics with his talent, technique and influence forming the bedrock behind City’s dazzling record of achievement in that period.

As he prepared for his Etihad goodbye, De Bruyne said he would reflect on his illustrious City career with a sense of enormous pride.

And, typically modest, he said he hoped he would be remembered as a positive player who had helped bring joy to the City supporters.

“I am proud of what we have done,” KDB said as he reflected on what has been an unforgettable decade at Manchester City.

“When you come here you know that City has a chance of winning trophies. You don’t really think about how much you can win.

“You hope to win and then you hope to win again.

“After you can see all of the trophies that you have won, and you reflect on that.

“It has been amazing.

“I wanted to have a good time, and I wanted to entertain people.

“I wanted to play good football; I wanted to be positive in the way that I play and to enjoy myself.

“I think the way that I am is the way that I play.

“We do something that a lot of people wanted to do and I hope people are happy with the way that I played football.

“I work really hard to be the best football player, but I also want to enjoy my life with my family and friends because I am able to do that. It worked perfectly.

“My family life and my personal life worked really well in Manchester and it blended perfectly.

“Everybody has different views, but I wanted to entertain people and enjoy it.

“I hope I have done that.”

With a full house in attendance for Tuesday night’s Etihad finale, it will be a fitting setting for De Bruyne, his City colleagues and the fans.

KDB will be afforded a guard of honour from team-mates and coaches at full-time and will also give a short speech on the pitch alongside a presentation.

However, aside from the outpouring of affection and gratitude for all that KDB has done, it’s also a crucial game in terms of City’s quest to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

With two games of the league season to go, sixth-placed City require four points to seal a top-five place and with it a guaranteed berth in Europe’s elite competition once again.

For his part, De Bruyne says that once the action gets underway, his professionalism and desire to help City succeed will his sole focus.

“I don’t know how I am going to feel. I don’t know how I am going to feel before or after with my family and all of that kind of stuff,” Kevin said as he looked ahead to Tuesday evening.

“We’ll take it how it is. There have been some emotional moments, but I think that is normal when you have been here for so long.

“A lot of people want to say something, and you talk a little bit more so there are more emotional moments involved.

“Once I am playing, I will be fine. For me, I just want to win that game.

“Obviously, there is a big personal thing involved, but I play football to win games and I want to do that.

“I will take it all in after the game and see how it goes.”
