Michael Beale has opened up on his decision to leave QPR during the 2022/23 campaign.

The 44-year-old made the controversial decision to depart Loftus Road just a few months into his reign with the club in order to take over at Scottish giants Rangers.

Speaking with Edward Lynch, he claimed that it was the happiest period of his career as a manager.

He revealed his fondness for the club despite the sour terms of his exit, amid QPR’s current search for a replacement for Martí Cifuentes.

When asked whether he’d accept Beale back at the club, FLW’s QPR fan pundit Louis Moir claimed that there is no trust between the fans and the coach after the manner of his exit.

While he’d be unsurprised if the former Rangers boss would want the job back, he’d expect it wouldn’t go down well with supporters if it came to fruition.

“It’s really interesting that Michael Beale has come out again with him doing an interview. It seems perfect timing that he’s doing this and saying things like QPR was the happiest time of his career and all that,” Moir told Football League World.

“There’s a part of me that thinks is he being genuine and does he mean all that? But then him saying ‘it’s the happiest I’ve been,’ if it was the happiest he’s been why did he leave?

“It’s one of them.

“The trust went as soon as he left.

“If he was to come back, I couldn’t imagine the reaction from the fanbase.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted the job back, to be fair.”

Michael Beale’s QPR regret

Moir believes that Beale regrets his decision to leave QPR when he did, but he doesn’t think the club would be willing to take him back now due to how supporters would react.

“One thing I will say, he clearly does regret his decision. What he did, if he could change it now, he probably would,” he added.

“But just thinking about it, being serious, you can not take him back whatsoever, you just couldn’t do it at all.

“And I don’t think we’d be stupid enough to do that because of the negativity it would get.

“I think it would seem a bit of a laughing stock, really, or we would as a club if we appointed him considering what he did to us at the time.

“Yes, we did play really good football. It was such a shame it didn’t work because I genuinely think we were going to push on.

“Not to say we definitely would’ve gotten into the top six, but we were top of the league after nearly 20 games with him.

“I think the only reason it went downhill was maybe players were getting a bit distracted, because obviously there was a bit of noise surrounding him leaving and that.

“But we’ll never know, I suppose, but there’s no way we could appoint him, surely, no way.”

QPR finished 15th in the Championship table last season under Cifuentes, earning 56 points.

QPR absolutely must avoid bringing back Beale

Beale returned to the Championship with Sunderland, where he struggled and only lasted 12 games.

His time at Rangers was also disappointing, and he ultimately lasted just 11 months back at Ibrox, having been assistant manager there previously.

There is no way QPR could consider bringing him back, despite these comments attempting to ease the relationship between him and the supporters.

His record since leaving Loftus Road hasn’t been impressive, and it simply wouldn’t go down well with the fans at all.
