Manchester City are in the race to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa in the summer transfer window, as per a new report.
City are set for a major squad revamp at the end of the season after failing to retain the Premier League title, exiting the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage and losing the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace last week.
Pep Guardiola is understood to be eyeing four to five additions to his squad as Manchester City look to recover from a sub-standard season and challenge on all fronts next term, which they will have to do without Kevin De Bruyne, who is leaving the club in June.
The rebuild is likely to begin in goal for Manchester City, whose incoming sporting director of football Hugo Viana could be forced to enter the transfer market in search of at least one new goalkeeper as uncertainty looms over the respective future(s) of Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno.
Ederson sought a transfer to the Saudi Pro League last summer but no suitor club was able to meet Manchester City’s £50 million valuation of the 31-year-old Brazil international, who is out of contract at the Etihad Stadium in 2026.
Ortega Moreno stirred doubts over his future in Manchester whilst on international duty with Germany in March, failing to deny the possibility of a possible exit from the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season amidst interest from the Bundesliga.
As per a new report by A Bola, Manchester City are in the race to sign Porto and Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa in the upcoming transfer window, with the 25-year-old believed to be on the market for a price of €75 million, as relayed by Sport Witness.
The report outlines that Manchester United and Bayern Munich are battling it out with the 2023 treble winners for Costa, who is attracting interest from the Etihad Stadium amidst uncertainty over Ederson and Ortega Moreno.
Porto will look to drive up their asking price for Costa by means of a bidding war for their goalkeeper, who has two years remaining on his current deal at the club – which would mean this is the ideal time for the Portuguese giants to cash in on one of their most prised assets.
Ederson is widely expected to leave Manchester City at the end of the season whilst it remains unclear at present what the summer transfer window will hold for Ortega Moreno, who has seen much more game time this season since his arrival from Arminia Bielefeld three years ago.
