Manchester United will target high-profile free agents in the summer transfer window amid limited funds to invest.
Resources for Ruben Amorim to overhaul his squad are expected to be minimal without sales this summer.
United are 13th in the Premier League table and at risk of missing out on Champions League football for the second successive campaign. In November, it was revealed that this season’s absence from the competition had contributed to an operating loss of £6.9m for the first quarter of the 2024-25 financial year.
Another season of absence from the Champions League, alongside last summer’s squad investment, means funds could be tight in the upcoming summer window.
Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that the Red Devils are drawing up a list of potential cost-efficient additions to improve their squad.
Among those out of contract at the end of the campaign and of interest to Manchester United are Lille duo Jonathan David and Angel Gomes.
The former has scored 104 goals in 208 appearances for the French side and is attracting interest from Europe’s elite. With Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having struggled for impact this season, David could offer an upgrade in the forward line.
Gomes came through the ranks at Manchester United and made his senior debut for the club as a 16-year-old. He left in 2020 for Lille and has since impressed in France. The 24-year-old made his England debut in September.
Among the upcoming 2025 free agents also under consideration are Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah, Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane and Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
