Norwich City must act fast if they wish to give Borja Sainz some well-needed rest, FLW discuss the rumoured options, Lewis Dobbin and Matěj Jurásek.

Norwich City have entered to new year amid a recent upturn in fortunes, somewhat reigniting their play-off hopes.

However, in order for the Canaries to continue their surge for the top six, they must endeavour to bolster their worryingly light depth in wide-forward positions as soon as possible.

Aside from Player of the Season-elect Borja Sainz, just Kaide Gordon (20), Tony Springett (22) and the routinely injured Onel Hernández (31) class themselves as natural wingers.

Having failed to score or assist in seven matches, many supporters believe the overreliance on Sainz has left him burnt out amid a grueling festive fixture list.

While the Norfolk side will struggle to replicate the quality of their exceptional Spanish forward, they surely must be prioritising arrivals that can contribute when minutes are managed, as the numbers dictate that Sainz needs a break.

With this in mind, the acquisition of the following two wide-forwards is crucial and should be completed as soon as possible, if Norwich are to prove a serious threat during the run-in.

Lewis Dobbin

Having been recalled from West Bromwich Albion by parent club Aston Villa, a club gaining something of a reputation of recalling loans in the winter, BBC Sport have reported that Norwich City are close to bringing in the 21-year-old on a short-term loan.

For supporters of the Carrow Road club, it may be concerning to learn that the former Toffee recorded just one league start for the Baggies. However, this was less of a spot on Dobbins' ability, and rather an unfortunate byproduct of Mikey Johnston and Tom Fellows gradually securing either flank as their own.

The former England U19 international is yet to become prolific in terms of goal involvement, though possesses off-the-ball qualities that can be completely invaluable in Championship play, particularly coming off the bench.

Once thought as a natural successor to Anthony Gordon at Everton, with a familiarly relentless playstyle, Dobbins' work ethic will be a real positive but the East Anglian club will want to see the end product to go with it. While it didn't work out at the Hawthorns, he could be exactly the kind of low-risk, high-reward talent that could give Norwich that extra push this end-season, and if reports are to be believed, should be over the line imminently.

Matěj Jurásek

Also strongly linked with a move to East Anglia this month is Czech Republic international Matěj Jurásek.

Having been at Slavia Prague since the age of 15, the winger emerged as one of the most exciting Czech talents in a generation, though has slowed down in his development as of late.

A left-footed winger that prefers to cut in from the right, the 21-year-old is completely fearless in his ability to take on defenders; if the deal comes into fruition, the Canaries may well have their perfect compliment to the left-sided Sainz.

A long-term investment, for sure, though if Jurásek can begin realise his full creative and attacking potential at Carrow Road, this could be the coup of the January window.

If reports are to be believed, both the aforementioned deals look likely to be completed by the end of the week, and if so, one must commend Norwich's transfer and recruitment staff, as they have rightly identified the glaring red flags within the squad, and promptly attempted to solve the problem early on.
