Marcus Thuram (27) has officially withdrawn from the France national team for the upcoming international break. The Inter Milan forward had been contending with an ankle issue.
Prior to the announcement of France’s squad last Thursday, Thuram’s inclusion had been a doubt. However, he was called upon by Didier Deschamps, despite Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi revealing that the forward had been struggling with an ankle issue. Despite that, the Frenchman still started in the Serie A side’s last UEFA Champions League game prior to the international break.
Thuram’s withdrawal from the squad was confirmed in a statement from the FFF on Monday. The statement confirmed that an injury to his left ankle was the reason for his withdrawal. No replacement has yet been announced, with the statement saying that Deschamps will work with a 23-man squad “for now”.
France play Croatia twice in the UEFA Nations League (20th March in Split and 23rd March at the Stade de France).
