“I’m still convinced that he has done well as a centre-back. That’s what the data speaks for, and bearing in mind that it’s not his ideal position,” Carlo Ancelotti said ahead of Real Madrid’s clash against Celta Vigo when asked about Aurelien Tchouameni’s performances.

At this point, there is substantial evidence to prove that the manager really believes that to be the case, especially given how he opts for the Frenchman over other resources available in the department.

Concurrently, however, there is a sense of understanding within Real Madrid that Tchouameni may not quite be the player they hoped for when they splashed cash on his recruitment and doubts are creeping in over his long-term future.

A sudden change in stance

As relayed in a recent report by Rodra, Real Madrid are already thinking of selling Tchouameni in the summer.

They are waiting for a suitable offer to arrive and will not hesitate to pull the trigger should it arrive in June. Given the good image he has in the Premier League, there is a good chance the player will leave.

Indeed, the Frenchman is still an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and dreams of donning the white colours for years. However, he is also aware that the manager is his only true supporter in the club at present.

Tchouameni has been scapegoated as the cause of Real Madrid’s shortcomings in recent months despite clearly being fielded out of position and the player is growing unhappy over his situation.

That coupled with the club’s disappointment may be enough to fuel a transfer. After all, there are people at Real Madrid who feel that he has not reached the level expected when they signed him.

The coming months will be key in deciding what will happen to the midfielder in the summer. With David Alaba set to make a comeback and a return to the midfield on the cards, he may have one more chance to salvage his situation at the club.
