Southampton's new football director Johannes Spors's work permit application has been rejected.
Last week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Southampton had hired Johannes Spors as their new director. This news relieved the Saints, who had witnessed their former chairman step down earlier.
Furthermore, Spors' impressive management at Italian club Genoa increased the excitement even further. Dreams of good transfer businesses felt fulfilling soon, but those aspirations have temporarily been hindered.
Football Insider has revealed that Spors' work permit petition has been rejected.
Southampton have been denied points, let alone wins in the Premier League. Now, the Saints are getting rejected off the pitch as well.
Southampton's January transfer window has been chaotic, to say the least. They planned their moves late and as a result, haven't enjoyed much success in transfer dealings.
Hence, the biggest thing they needed at this point was a good direction. Something which seems to be delayed or might not be granted entirely.
Surprised by Spors' work permit rejection, Southampton have decided to act swiftly and find a possible solution.
According to Sky Sports' live blog, the club has approached the FA to grant them permission to hire Johannes Spors.
Around ten days are left in the January transfer window. In this duration, Southampton needs to assemble a squad capable of bringing a few Premier League wins.
Thus, signings are needed, especially elite quality players. Many might even argue that new signing Albert Gronbaek falls into this category.
Hopefully, he becomes one at Southampton but he has also seen his fair share of struggles at Rennes.
On top of that, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Paul Onuachu have found their form only recently. To give an idea, they joined Southampton two years ago.
Therefore, Southampton needs promising as well as proven players in January. One, which can be accomplished as part of a good sporting project.
Johannes Spors' arrival could help with that, but whether he gets the work permit is yet to be confirmed.
