Erling Haaland has revealed what he personally told fellow Manchester City striker Omar Marmoush following the Egyptian’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium.
The two blockbuster forwards are currently working hand-in-hand to supply the goals for Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to end the season on as best of a high as possible, in what has largely been a hugely underwhelming campaign.
Those disappointments were not eased at all over the course of the weekend either as Crystal Palace recorded a 1-0 win over Manchester City in the FA Cup Final courtesy of a single exemplary strike from Eberechi Eze in the first-half.
Marmoush and Haaland had their hand to play in proceedings though, as a penalty won by Bernardo Silva left the Norwegian clutching the ball by the spot, only to hand over proceedings to the newly-signed forward, who had his effort saved by Dean Henderson.
Speaking during an exclusive and wide-ranging conversation with ESPN UK, Erling Haaland was quizzed for his thoughts on his new attacking partner in Omar Marmoush following the Egyptian’s arrival in January.
“He’s got a great start at [Manchester] City, he’s got much speed, the flair a little bit in his game,” Haaland admitted.
“And again, I told him, ‘You come to City, you don’t have to prove anything. There’s a reason why they bought you’, because look what he did for [Eintracht] Frankfurt, also this season.”
The Norway international continued, “For him is to come good in the team and bring what he knows he can do; score goals, give assists, come with loads of energy, and play his style of football. This is what we need.”
Manchester City no doubt have two of the very finest goalscoring stars in European football at their disposal, and many supporters will be hoping that with a better supply-line and creativity from the middle of the park, that they can get the very best out of both players.
This summer will however see the exit of Kevin De Bruyne from the Etihad Stadium, and with City formally withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz due to the growing finances involved in a prospective deal, their replacements options have been limited.
There remains a keen interest in AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders as a versatile No.8 in the centre of the pitch, while City are expected to also be the front-runners in the race to sign Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White this summer.
