It has been a while since Barcelona’s dream trio of Jordi Alba, Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets left the club.

All three players currently ply their trade at Inter Miami, but interestingly, Barcelona are still paying their salaries on account of previous salaries that were deferred by the club.

After all, all of these three players were central to Barcelona’s initial financial mess, which forced the club to defer payments and ask for pay cuts for several star players.

Salary payments to stop at the end of this season

Messi, Busquets and Alba were no exceptions, which is why they are still owed a part of their salary which was previously deferred.

According to Mundo Deportivo, however, payments to Messi, Busquets and Alba will come to an end after the end of the season.

The report adds that the payments owed to these players will only impact Barcelona at the treasury level and will not be calculated as part of expenditures for the 2024/25 campaign.

This is because everything was calculated as part of the 2020/21 campaign’s expenditures when they were initially provisioned.

Nevertheless, these payments have impacted Barcelona gravely, especially at a time when the club are desperately looking to sort their accounts.

With 2025 just around the corner, the coming months could be crucial as Barcelona look to further reduce their expenditures and salary payments, perhaps by sanctioning the sale of some of their star players.

At the same time, Barcelona have identified key players, including Lamine Yamal, who are likely to be prioritised, as the club look to seal their long-term future at Camp Nou.
