Rennes winger Amine Gouiri (24) is set to join Ligue 1 rivals Olympique de Marseille as both clubs found an agreement on principle, according to reports from L’Equipe and Foot Mercato. Les Phocéens have identified the Algeria international to bolster Roberto De Zerbi’s attacking options. Marseille were looking for reinforcements up front after parting ways with summer signing Elye Wahi (22). The former Montpellier and Lens centre-forward joined Eintracht Frankfurt over a €26m deal.

Foot Mercato understands that Gouiri has been allowed to leave Rennes to undergo a medical with Marseille. Stade Rennais set Gouiri’s asking price at €25m. The Olympique Lyonnais Academy graduate was Rennes’ record signing when he joined Les Rouge et Noir from OGC Nice in a €28m deal. Gouiri never really lived up to expectations and has jumped at the opportunity to sign for Marseille after a round of talks with De Zerbi and Marseille Sporting Director Mehdi Benatia.
