Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to complete the signing of Victor Osimhen in a bid to help the struggling Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund produced another woeful performance on Sunday as United narrowly beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage, courtesy of a Lisandro Martinez goal.
The United n.o 9 was given the nod to lead the line ahead of Joshua Zirkzee but the decision backfired. He lost almost every duel and failed to be a focal point for the team.
Unsurprisingly, he was hooked 10 minutes after the restart and replaced by Joshua Zirkzee, who wasn’t a massive improvement on the Denmark international.
It’s clear that United need attacking reinforcements as Ruben Amorim aims to guide the club to a strong finish to the season.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand pinpointed Osimhen as the perfect man to come in and not only score goals for United regularly, but also guide Hojlund.
Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli and he has been linked to United this month.
Ferdinand said, “I’ve watched Hojlund closely the last two games… it just doesn’t add up.”
“I’d be going to get Osimhen now if we can do it from a financial standpoint. Get him on loan now! Guarantees you someone who can get on the end of things, scores goals, experienced, done it at the top level.”
“I just feel like because Hojlund was £70m-odd we’re expecting the finished article. Unfortunately [he’s not]. He’s a young striker but normally a striker of that age comes in and learns off someone. He’s got nobody to learn off.”
“He’s looking at [Joshua] Zirkzee whose like him. They both need someone to learn what it takes to be a Manchester United No.9.”
The six-time Premier League winner added, “What are they doing every day? What type of drills are they doing? In games, how are they adapting to each centre-half? All of these questions he’s got in his head, he’s got nobody sitting there going, ‘this is what to do.'”
“A big part of the recruitment now is buying young talented players but there needs to be an element of who are they going to learn from on the job.”
So far this term, Osimhen has plundered 16 goals and assisted a further five in 20 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray.
