Sergio Aguero has hit out at Real Madrid after they boycotted the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony on Monday.
The Spanish club no-showed the event in Paris after learning Vinicius Junior had missed out on the prestigious honour to Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
That’s despite the fact Los Blancos had won the Men’s Club of the Year award and their manager Carlo Ancelotti was named the best Men’s Coach of the Year.
Real Madrid released a statement to AFP claiming they had been disrespected and would “not go where it is not respected”.

Aguero, who feels that Rodri was a deserving winner of the Ballon d’Or and expressed his dismay at Real’s actions on his streaming channel.
“Well deserved. Rodri is the best player in the world. Football is for everyone, not just Real Madrid – they are so entitled. They think they can do whatever they want,” the former Barcelona and Man City striker said.
A number of Real Madrid players would disagree with the Argentine judging by some of their reactions on social media, but Rodri told Movistar Plus that Dani Carvajal had congratulated him personally.
“I received a call from Dani Carvajal who was very happy for me,” the 28-year-old said. “I wanted to remember him because I think he also deserved it. He has similar values to mine, of teamwork, of loving a club and of giving everything. We share many things, we have been brought together more by the injury.”
In his acceptance speech, Rodri said: “I’d like to thank the national team and Luis [de la Fuente] for trusting me for so long. My colleagues with whom I won the Euros – Carvajal, he should’ve been here with me. Lamine, I know you’ll win this award soon.
“This is not just a victory for me, but for Spanish football. So many players who didn’t win the award, but deserved it, this is a victory of Spanish football.”
